“Tibetan Healing Massage with Lama Lobsang Palden
Comments by Janice Goldblatt, October 2004
Last year I received an email about a gifted Tibetan lama visiting from St. Louis who was offering a unique kind of healing session. I soon experienced my first authentic Tibetan Healing Massage with Lama Lobsang Palden and I couldn’t wait to tell everyone I knew abut him: it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Word about this venerated Lama spread quickly: when was Lama coming to Chicago next and how would anyone get a coveted appointment?
Now that Lama and his family have moved to Chicago, anyone can and everyone should try this authentic healing therapy: he offers massage, yoga, healing circles and more at locations around the city and suburbs. As a person with a debilitating illness I often receive sessions in my home.
Every session is a mystical gift of transcendent healing and peace, and yet each session is completely unique: Lama seems to use his visionary insight and extensive Dharma training to mix just the right combination of healing modalities to address my condition. He mysteriously chooses and applies custom-made  natural lotions and oils, salt scrubs, hot towels, stones, crystals, prayers, meditation, musical instruments and expert deep healing touch for my body, mind and spirit.
I am increasingly awed by his powerful energy, deep generosity and compassion, and profound wisdom. It is an honor and blessing to work with him and to have him and his family here in Chicago.”
    With deep gratitude,

“I started going to see Lama Lobsang Palden for healing massage back in the Spring of 2001.  At that time I was suffering from chronic/severe low back pain which I had been dealing with for approximately 10 years.  Over the course of those 10 years I had tried everything from chiropractic, to physical therapy, to acupuncture, to muscle relaxing pain pills, etc.  All of these modalities offered short-term relief, but never long-term results.  Eventually my back would go out again and I would be in debilitating pain.
Initially I went to see Lama only for massage and was always amazed at his ability to find the areas of my body that were in the most pain and to quickly help relieve that pain.  On many occasions he would tell me about issues going on with my body which I had never mentioned to him.  He would just somehow intuitively know these things.  His massages are deep and strong yet very gentle at the same time.  He uses a wide variety of different techniques and seems to know exactly the right treatment to use for whatever is going on with my body.
Eventually Lama encouraged me to start coming to his Yantra Yoga classes.  Having done some yoga in the past, I was reluctant to try because other forms of yoga had always been very difficult for me.  Finally I showed up for class one day and found myself really attracted to this form of yoga.  It was different than other forms of yoga that I had tried.  I think because the postures are only held for a very short period of time, my back was able to handle it.  Also, the combination of movement, postures, mudras, and chanting were incredible and kept the class interesting.  In the beginning I could only do about 50% of the  postures and found myself crying out of frustration and pain.  But Lama never encouraged me to do more than I could handle and always encouraged me to come back for more— which I did— finally committing to a regular yoga practice of three times a week.
Lama also invited me attend the Medicine Buddha Healing Circle that he held once a month.  He said he thought it might help in my healing process.  Knowing very little about Buddhism, I was reluctant to go and had no idea what to expect.  I have no words for this part of my healing journey.  All I can say is that the chanting alone can probably heal the world, as well as me, and that I am forever grateful to the path of Buddhism in my life.  It has literally changed my life.  Attending the Medicine Buddha Healing Circle on a regular basis was as much a part of my healing process as was the regular Massage and Yoga.
It was through the combination of these three healing paths, and the help of Lama Lobsang, that I have found an incredible healing.  Through regular Massage, Yoga and Medicine Buddha Pujas, I have found permanent long-term relief from my chronic back pain.  I have been completely pain-free for a little more than 2 years now.  Through this process of healing the chronic pain/depression cycle in my life, I have also found the initiative and energy to finally lose 75 pounds that I had been trying to lose for many years.  I have never felt better in my life.  I have the utmost respect and gratitude for the help and  guidance that Lama has given me over the years that I have known him.  He has been a true blessing in my life.  Thank you Lama for all your help!”

“Lama Lobsang:
“I'm sure people speak of you in superlatives. I will add my paeans to theirs. Thank you for Tuesday's therapeutic massage. It was more than massage. It was the giving of yourself, your gentleness, your tenderness, your strength. It was a life-giving experience and I will be with you again. Perhaps next time I will also have some time to listen to some teaching. I am a Catholic priest to put me in perspective and there is room to learn. Your presence remains deep within me.”

“I have really enjoyed my healing massages with Lama and look forward to scheduling some time again with him in the future.  He is a very gifted healer.”

“We both feel the massage is wonderful on the physical level, but the spiritual aspect of Lama doing the healing work is beyond measure.”
