When
Lama Lobsang Palden was a child, he was recognized as a tulku, or reincarnated
lama, and went to live at Tashi Kyil Monastery in Amdo, Tibet. There he began his
monastic training and intensive Dharma practice.
He studies Tibetan Buddhist Meditation and Philosophy, Tibetan Yantra Yoga, Tibetan Medicine, and Tibetan Healing Massage. Lama Lobsang has the equivalent of a Master's Degree in Tibetan Buddhist Studies from Tashi Kyil Monastery.
After he left Tibet, Lama Lobsang lived at the Tashi Kyil Monastery in the Amdo Colony-in-exile of
Clement Town, at Dehra Dun, India. The following letter was written by Tashi Kyil's
head lama, Lobsang Woser:
Dated: 2 June 94
"The founding of this monastery was inspired by Tashi Kyil Manastery at Amdo, Tibet. Founded in 1965, its aim was and is to preserve and practice the traditions of Tashi Kyil. As a Buddhist monastery of the Gelukpa sect, we are actively engaged in the reading of scriptures, recitation of mantras and the study of Buddhist philosophy. Besides, we practice all those rituals associated with the Gelukpa tradition, like holding of the Great Monlam prayers in the first Lunar month and observing the Summer time prayers and restrictions called 'Yerney'.
"Our efforts to continue the Buddhist traditions and practices are seriously affected by a lack of funds. We need sponsors/funds to enable us to continue the Monlam festival prayers and Yerney. Repairs and restorations are now a necessity and we ugently need to build bathroom and toilet facilities for the monks.
"We apprised the Tibetan Government in exile about our problems through the Representative of Home Affairs, U.P. and the Representative of the Gelukpa sect in the Tibetan National Assembly, Dharamsala. Following their recommendations, the Department of Religion and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration of HH the Dalai Lama issued approval to solicit donations from friends and Dharma followers.
"So, we appeal to all interested persons/organizations to help us with the work we do to preserve/propagate the precious Dharma. Further enquiries are most welcome."
